For many, it is even new that wild orchids can be found in Hungary – even though the number of domestic species exceeds 65.
The Peszér-forest is a particularly important nature conservation area, especially abundant in orchids, and to the best of our knowledge, 20 species are certain to occur here.
One of the most beautiful of them is the military orchid (Orchis militaris). It got its name because its flowers closely resemble a helmeted knight.
The nature conservation value of the military orchid is HUF 10,000.
In Hungary, all wild orchids are protected.
