The ball-head onion is a native species in Hungary, which our colleagues discovered in several glades of the Peszér-forest.
Ball-head onion is perennial, 20-90 cm tall plant. Its leaves are semi-cylindrical, slightly depressed at the top, they are max. 30 cm long and 1 to 4 mm wide.
It blooms in June-July.
Lime lover; it lives in rocky grasslands, steppe grassy slopes, wooded steppes and sand meadows, loess associations, loess patches and their secondary production sites.
It is a relatively easily identifiable species.
